The clothing swap that stops the nation!
It is no secret that Australians love to shop. But now forward thinking fashionistas are hosting a National Clothing Swap Day on Monday October 25th. It will be a day of awareness and social change by starting with our wardrobes.
Established since 2004, The Clothing Exchange are stepping up their regular clothing swaps to a giant national swap with the aim to get as many people across the nation swapping clothes at the one time. With hosts in Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane all running events at 6.30pm on the Monday, there is also encouragement for regional areas to host their own clothing swaps amongst friends.
With ‘fashion waste’ standing at $1.7 billion annually, it’s time to take a stand. Kate Luckins founder of The Clothing Exchange, says, ‘Swapping allows style conscious individuals to update their wardrobe without a credit card insight and not damaging the environment’.
National Swap Day has been declared and clothes swapping events will be held in key venues across Australia on October 25th including Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth andBrisbane. For those outside of these areas that want to be involved, swapping kits will be sent out by The Clothing Exchange – just email Melbourne@clothingexchange.com.au for
more information.
National Swap Day will be run in collaboration with Ethical Clothing Australia who are an accreditation and labelling scheme for local textile, clothing and footwear industry to ensure Australian workers receive fair wages and decent conditions.
