Enviroweek

enviroweek-trees-flinders-christian-college.jpgDuring this years Enviroweek campaign over 58,000 Australian primary and secondary school students participated in a green challenge with their class!

Their inspirational teachers registered their class for the week and motivated their students to take on a variety of sustainable activities.

Some used the opportunity to raise funds for a school green project while others used it as an action week to bring about change within the school.

We have been sent many stories of the school green heros and what they achieved during Enviroweek. Here are just a few!

"Some of the activities we did this week which are still going are collecting plastic bags and learning about recycling.

In just in one week we were able to collect 401 bags. This was a real eye opener for the children.

We also did a waste audit to promote waste within the school. What interesting findings. We documented the details and pictures in this week’s newsletter and are hoping to start doing "nude food days" soon where we will not bring any waste to school.

wollongong-west-public-sch-enviroweek1.jpgWe found out that the waste on the playground ONLY... in one day was 13kg. 7KG of wet waste including food scraps and even food that had not even been opened like a sandwich and a sausage roll from the canteen.

We were so amazed of how much people are wasting. The rubbish in total made up of paper bags, plastic wrappers weighed 5kg in total. Much of this could of been recycled and instead it was put into the garbage bins will then go into landfill.

We have also planted some new vegetables this week. Including capsicum and passion fruit."

Scoresby Primary School Got Creative For Enviroweek

The students at Scoresby Primary School in Melbourne created these fantastic drawings to illustrate what they had done for Enviroweek 2012. Below are a selection of the students work and we think they know how to get a message across!

Bexhill Primary School

bexhill-ps-enviroweek-students.jpg"We held a "Green Day" where all the students and staff wore green. As part of this day we held a 'Litter Free Day'. The students made a conscious effort to reduce the waste in their lunch box which was a great success.

The day prior to our litter free day our lunch and recess waste weighed in at 1kg. On the litter free day it weighed 200grams. This waste did not include our food scraps as they go to our resident chooks and compost bin.

One class spent recess and lunch checking the rooms in the school to make sure they were being 'environmentally friendly' with their electricity use and two other classes spent part of their day weeding and watering our gardens and vegetable patch.

The students had a great day."

Fundraising for schools with Enviroweek

dol_1.jpg
Enviroweek provided a tool for teachers and schools to encourage their students to take an environmental challenge and by doing so opened up the possibility to raise funds for their own green projects.

Some schools joined in the Enviroweek campaign without raising funds and made it a week of action within the school.

The first 1,000 classes that registered in 2012 recieved Smiggle bag tags for each of the students involved, cool!

Enviroweek and Our Cool School

The Enviroweek Schools program is aligned with the Our Cool School education program, the leading curriculum-based online education resource. This provides teachers with all the tools to actively engage students in understanding our environment. Enviroweek - What we achieved

Our goal was to raise funds for various environmental charities and organisations. Enviroweek invited all Australians to get sponsored and take on an environmental challenge or dare for one week.

Here are the results of the energy savings from Enviroweek 2010:
